8/29/25 Fulton, MO – The Westminster women's volleyball team started its 2025 season with an impressive 2-0 showing on Friday at Virginia Wesleyan University, rallying for a five-set victory over Plymouth State before sweeping Widener in straight sets.
In their opener, the Blue Jays (2-0) showed resilience after dropping the first two sets to Plymouth State, 23-25 and 23-25. Westminster bounced back with a dominant 25-11 third set and carried the momentum through a 25-21 fourth set before sealing the comeback with a decisive 15-5 win in the fifth.
Three Blue Jays posted double-digit kills in the victory. Meghan Nolte led the way with 14 kills on a .522 hitting percentage, while Kylie Hasselbacher tallied 13 kills, 12 digs, and three aces. Katelynn Jackson added 11 kills and five digs. Landrey VanOverschelde directed the attack with 38 assists, and Haylie Schnake anchored the defense with 27 digs.
Westminster carried that energy into the second match, sweeping Widener 25-8, 25-20, 25-19. The Blue Jays' offense clicked from the start, hitting .309 as a team in the win. Paige Rowland paced the attack with eight kills on .438 hitting, while Nolte and Makenzie Sansone each added seven kills. Hasselbacher contributed four kills and an ace, while Schnake continued her strong defensive play with nine digs.
With the two victories, Westminster begins the season 2-0. The Blue Jays return to action Saturday with two more matches at Virginia Wesleyan.
