Westminster Baseball Swept by Spalding

LOUISVILLE - Westminster baseball dropped both games in a two-game series against SLIAC opponent Spalding.

Westminster fall to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in the conference with the losses.

In game one, the Blue Jays fell 6-0. Alex Dickneite took the mound for Westminster, pitching all six innings before the run rule took effect to end the game in the seventh. He gave up six runs, three earned, on 11 hits.

Spalding allowed just six hits for Westminster. Will Stonecipher went 2-3 while Nick Bohlmann and Tanner Branneky each earned a hit as well.

The Blue Jays came out strong in the second game to fall 4-3 in nine innings. Sam Huesgen took the mound, taking the loss to start his season 3-2. He went 8.2 innings, giving up just one earned run on seven hits and striking out eight.

After giving up a run in the first inning, the Blue Jays answered with two runs in the top of the second on an RBI single from Stonecipher, scoring Branneky and Ryan Gvillo

A double from Blake Strebler to score Adam Mundle in the sixth gave Westminster its first lead of the day.

A three-run bottom of the ninth inning for the Golden Eagles led to a walkoff win for Spalding.

The Blue Jays return home April 1 to face Greenville at Saucier Field for a two-game series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
