Blue Jay Softball Rolls Through Stephens College at Home

Sam Justice

4/7/2026 Fulton, MO–After a messy but dominant sweep over Lyon, Westminster's softball team was feeling confident heading into this home series against Stephens College.

Game 1: W, 2-0

The Blue Jays went to their horse, Madison Plybon, in game one. Plybon currently leads the SLIAC in strikeouts with 54. Carrying on from her season-long performance, Plybon shut down the Stephens College offense, firing a complete game shutout, giving up only two hits. Behind Plybon's great start, the Jays' offense didn't need much. Yadi Montes homered in the third to give the Jays the only run they needed to win. The Blue Jays would tack on one more unearned run in the fifth and go on to win 2-0.

Game 2: W, 4-3

Now going for their fourth win in a row, the Blue Jays turned to Payton Duddenhoeffer for the finale. She faced an early deficit, giving up two first-inning runs from a set of singles. Duddenhoeffer settled in, though, working six more innings of one-run ball, giving the Jays a real chance to extend the win streak to four and sweep the series. The offense picked up Duddenhoeffer's strong start, scoring two runs from a Madi Clubb sac fly and another run scored by a wild pitch. The Jays' strong pitching and fighting offense led to only a one-run deficit in the seventh. Sophomore Amber Dierling called game and smacked a walk-off two-run double to finish the sweep with a 4-3 win.
