Feb. 28th, 2026 Elsah, IL - The Westminster men's track & field team competed at the 2026 SLIAC Indoor Championship on Friday and Saturday, February 27th-28th, at Principia College. On Friday evening, freshman
Lee Ivy III kicked off the meet by breaking the program record in the weight throw. His throw of 12.88 meters on his fifth attempt secured a fourth-place finish in the event (highest among freshmen in the weight throw). Fellow freshman Vincent Howard narrowly missed a spot in the final, finishing in tenth place.
On the runway, freshman Nik Thieman led a trio of long jumpers, including sophomore
Weston Jennings and freshman
Chase Arnold, with a 14th-place finish.
On Saturday, Ivy III returned to the ring, this time for the shot put. He tossed a new personal best of 12.93 meters (good for the #3 spot in program history), registering his second fourth-place finish. Howard also threw a personal best (11.53 meters), earning a spot in the finals, where he placed seventh.
Elsewhere in the field, Arnold set a new season best in the triple jump (12.20 meters), narrowly missing the program record of 12.22 meters. Thieman returned in the high jump and tied for seventh place in a crowded field.
On the track, freshman
Aidan Szczodroski lowered his own program record in the 60-meter hurdles, dropping his time to 9.18, good for fifth place. Szczodroski, Jennings, Thieman, and freshman
Levi Brandt then combined to run 3:50.68 in the 4x400-meter relay at the end of the meet, finishing seventh. Overall, the Blue Jays scored 19.5 points, placing seventh out of nine teams.
The Blue Jays kick off their 2026 outdoor track & field season on Saturday, March 14th, at the Ouachita Invitational in Arkadelphia, AR.
