Fulton, Mo. 2/7/2026 — The Westminster College men's basketball team battled throughout Saturday's SLIAC Conference game, but came up just short against Spalding University, dropping a 70-64 decision at the Historic Gym.
After a competitive first half, Westminster carried a 32-29 advantage into the locker room behind strong play across the lineup. The Blue Jays moved the ball effectively and found good looks on offense in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, Spalding responded with a well-balanced attack and increased defensive pressure. The Golden Eagles outscored Westminster 41-32 after intermission, making timely baskets down the stretch to secure the win.
Walker Gohring led the Blue Jays offensively with 21 points, knocking down multiple key shots and providing a spark from deep. Gohring would score his 1000
th career point and grabbed his 400
th career rebound.
Kolton Garner added 12 points, while
Jamile Johnson contributed 10, giving Westminster three players in double figures in the contest.
Despite the loss, Westminster remained competitive throughout and had opportunities to pull even in the final minutes. The effort kept the game close in front of the home crowd, and the Blue Jays will look to build on the positives as they continue SLIAC play.
Westminster returns to action on Wednesday, February 11th when they travel to Greenville, Illinois to take on the Panthers.
