1/18/2026 Fulton, MO - The Westminster College men's volleyball team delivered a perfect weekend in Ohio, sweeping all four matches on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16–17, to move to 6–1 on the 2026 season after entering the trip at 2–1.
The Blue Jays opened the weekend with a hard-fought five-set victory over Marian (WI), 25–18, 25–27, 25–20, 21–25, 15–13. Westminster showed resilience in a back-and-forth match, powered by Brady Sickles' 14 kills on .379 hitting and Derrick Turner's 13 kills on a .321 clip. Khalil Peterson added 11 kills and six block assists, while Charlie Haas totaled 12.5 points. Connor Johnson directed the offense with 40 assists as the Blue Jays closed out the decisive fifth set.
Westminster continued its momentum in match two with a straight-set win over Thiel, 25–19, 25–17, 25–20. The Blue Jays hit an impressive .353 as a team and controlled the match from start to finish. Turner led the way with 15 kills, Demetrius Allen added nine kills on .389 hitting, and Sickles posted eight kills on an efficient .545 clip. Johnson recorded 31 assists to pace the offense.
In the third match of the weekend, the Blue Jays survived another five-set battle, defeating EMU, 23–25, 26–24, 15–25, 25–22, 15–10. After dropping sets one and three, Westminster responded with composure to force a fifth set and closed strong. Haas led the team with nine kills while hitting .462, Turner added 11 kills, and Allen recorded eight kills. Johnson finished with 38 assists, and Westminster totaled 16 team blocks to swing momentum in the later sets.
The weekend concluded with a thrilling five-set win over Wittenberg, 25–20, 20–25, 14–25, 25–21, 15–13. After falling behind two sets to one, the Blue Jays rallied behind balanced offensive production and strong net play. Peterson led with 11 kills on .444 hitting, Turner added 13 kills, and both Allen and Sickles contributed double-digit point performances. Luke Rohrbach made a major impact at the net with five block assists, while Johnson anchored the offense with 36 assists. Westminster recorded 19 team blocks in the match.
Across the four matches, the Blue Jays displayed depth, consistency, and mental toughness, winning three matches in five sets and one in straight sets. The Ohio trip highlighted Westminster's ability to respond in pressure situations and get contributions from all areas of the lineup. Westminster returns home with a four-match winning streak and will host a home tri-match on Friday, Jan. 23, as the Blue Jays look to continue building momentum in the 2026 season.
