Blue Jays Advance To The Semifinals Of The SLIAC Tournament

05/06/2025 Fulton, MO - Westminster College powered through the SLIAC Quarterfinals with a dominant 16-5 victory over Greenville College on May 6, 2025, at home in Fulton, MO. The Blue Jays (17-20, 9-9 SLIAC) displayed explosive offensive firepower and solid pitching to advance to the next round, securing a commanding win in what was a high-scoring affair. 

Westminster took control early, with a three-run first inning. Sam Alles kicked things off with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Beno Ballard and an error that scored another run, giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead. The offensive surge continued in the second inning, adding three more runs, including a two-RBI single from Alles to make it 6-0. 

Greenville (17-20, 9-9 SLIAC) tried to fight back in the third inning, scoring four runs to trim Westminster's lead to 6-4. However, the Blue Jays responded with an overwhelming offensive attack in the bottom of the third. Keli'i Price walked to drive in a run, and Alles picked up two more RBIs. Ballard's double and subsequent sacrifice fly extended the lead to 10-4. 

Westminster didn't let up, adding five more runs in the seventh inning, including a three-run home run by Ballard to cap off the dominant performance, pushing the score to 16-5. 

On the mound, Derek Archer (5-2) picked up the win, throwing five solid innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out three. Richard Decola and Jack Page combined for 3 innings of shutout relief, with Page striking out three in his two innings. Tayden Harlow also threw a scoreless inning to close out the game. 

Westminster's win was highlighted by a balanced offensive attack, with everyone contributing at the plate. Sam Alles finished with 5 RBIs, and Beno Ballard had 5 RBIs, including a home run. Keli'i Price also played a key role with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. 

With the victory, Westminster advances in the SLIAC tournament, continuing their pursuit of a conference title.
