Westminster Drops Two Against Eureka

04/23/2025 Fulton, MO- Westminster played a doubleheader against Eureka on Tuesday, April 22nd. In the first game, Eureka dominated with a 21-2 win, while the second game was a much closer contest, with Eureka holding on for a 9-8 victory.

Eureka 21, Westminster 2

In a challenging matchup at home, Westminster faced a formidable Eureka team that dominated the game from start to finish. Eureka jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second, building a commanding lead. Westminster struggled to contain Eureka's offense, with Eureka scoring in every subsequent inning, highlighted by multiple home runs and extra-base hits.

Westminster managed to get on the board with a solo home run by Keli'i Price in the third inning, but they struggled to generate consistent offense against Eureka's strong pitching and defense. Sam Callaway added another home run in the seventh inning, providing a late spark for the Blue Jays.

Despite the efforts, Westminster ultimately fell short, facing a final score of 21-2 in favor of Eureka. The game highlighted Eureka's offensive prowess and Westminster's need to regroup defensively moving forward.

Eureka 9, Westminster 8

In the second game of the day, both teams battled through a tightly contested back-and-forth affair. Eureka struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning, but Westminster quickly responded with two runs of their own. The Blue Jays capitalized on errors by Eureka's defense to take a 3-1 lead after two innings.

However, Eureka responded with back-to-back solo homers, tying the game at 3-3. The two teams traded runs again in the fourth inning, with Westminster taking a slim 5-4 lead. The Blue Jays showed their offensive depth as they capitalized on an error by Eureka's third baseman and added two more runs, but Eureka wasn't backing down. They managed to regain the lead with a five-run rally in the top of the ninth inning, fueled by a wild pitch and timely hits, including a clutch 2-RBI single.

Westminster's offense wasn't done, though, and they answered back in the bottom of the ninth. The Blue Jays scored two runs, with Sam Callaway driving in one with a sacrifice fly,

bringing Westminster within one at 9-8. With two runners on and a chance to tie the game, Westminster couldn't get the final hit they needed, and Eureka held on for the win.

Key performances came from Keli'i Price and Troy Romero, who both had multiple hits, and Beno Ballard, who drove in three runs. The Blue Jays also received contributions from Aden Pecka and Braden Eye, who each recorded an RBI. Despite the offensive output, Westminster struggled with timely pitching, as they allowed a few costly runs late in the game
