Aidan Ortmann Named Westminster's First Player of the Month

Freshman Aidan Ortmann has been named Westminster College's January Player of the Month, making history as the first recipient of this newly introduced recognition by Westminster Athletics. This program is designed to highlight student-athletes who excel in competition, demonstrate leadership, and make a positive impact within the campus community.

Ortmann, a Business Administration major and Finance minor from Chesterfield, MO, is not only making a name for himself but is also part of another historic moment at Westminster—competing in the inaugural season of the men's volleyball program. Despite being a first-year player on a brand-new team, he has quickly emerged as a key contributor for the Blue Jays.

Ortmann led the Blue Jays offensively in January, recording 104 kills (2.42 per set), 9 service aces, 65 digs (1.51 per set), 18 total blocks, and 123 points (2.9 per set). His efforts earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team at Westminster's season-opening tournament in New York, and his ability to consistently contribute in multiple areas of the game has made him a key piece of the team's success.

His work ethic and leadership have stood out just as much as his stats. "He is a very hardworking athlete and student, and he always maintains a positive attitude on and off the court," one of his peers noted. Another highlighted his impressive production, saying, "He is leading the team in kills and in service aces."

For Ortmann, receiving this honor is a motivating moment. "It's a very rewarding experience that makes me want to work harder to earn it every month to come," he said. One of his standout performances came during Westminster's match against Adrian College in Wisconsin, where he felt he was playing at his best. "That was a game where everything clicked, and my play felt natural," he recalled.

Ortmann also credits his teammates for shaping his experience at Westminster, emphasizing the close bond they share. "The environment of our team is amazing, and we all support and push each other every day," he said. "I wouldn't call the volleyball team just a team—I would call them a family and my brothers."

Off the court, Ortmann remains focused on improving, spending time studying and watching volleyball film, ensuring that he is always learning and growing. When he's not focused on school or sports, he enjoys listening to music in his free time.

As Westminster Athletics debuts its Player of the Month program, Aidan Ortmann has set the tone for what it means to be recognized with this honor. His performance on the court, commitment to his team, and dedication to continuous improvement embody the values of Westminster student-athletes.
