Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Expands to Include Full-Time Strength and Conditioning Coach

7/14/2025 Fulton, Mo - Westminster's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Chris Puzzo as the College's first-ever full-time Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. This hiring, which officially creates the Sports Performance Department, continues the College's strategic plan to revitalize Blue Jays Athletics.

Puzzo joins Westminster after spending the last two years as the Assistant Strength Coach at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. While at Rutgers, Puzzo worked primarily with the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the cheer and dance teams.

Puzzo is a Lowell, Massachusetts, native, having graduated from the Greater Lowell Technical High School in 2010. He graduated from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. He then went on to earn his Master of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he completed an internship in the first year working with the Gators baseball team and then worked with the men's and women's basketball team in the second year.

Puzzo recently said, "I am thrilled to join Westminster Athletics and to have the opportunity to build a performance department that not only empowers our athletes to pursue athletic excellence, but also instills training principles that cultivate leadership, resilience, and a mindset of continuous growth in sport, in school and in life."

Ryan Novatny, Director of Sports Medicine and Performance, said, "We are very excited to have Chris join our team at Westminster College.  We look forward to working alongside him in creating a Sports Performance department that will not only emphasize the health and well-being of our student athletes but also assist them in reaching their maximum athletic potential during their time competing as a Blue Jay."

Dr. Jessica Brown, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, echoed Novatny's sentiments. "We know to rise to the top of our conferences in all sports, we must invest in the resources that our student athletes need off the playing field," Brown reflected. "I am excited to have Chris join the Blue Jays Nation. His experience and passion for sports performance will allow us to enhance our student- athlete experience and, ultimately, rise to the top of our conferences."

Please join us in welcoming Chris to Westminster College!
