9/20/2024 Whitewater, WI- In a game marked by intense play and numerous fouls, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team edged out Westminster College 1-0 on Friday evening at Robert W. Fiskum Field in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
The first half saw the Warhawks applying consistent pressure, outshooting the Blue Jays 8-2. Despite the offensive domination, Westminster's goalkeeper, Hunter Deeken, kept the match scoreless with key saves.
The scoreless tie was broken in the second half when Wisconsin-Whitewater was awarded a penalty kick. The Warhawks capitalized on the opportunity, confidently converting the shot to take the lead.
The Warhawks continued to dominate offensively, recording 12 shots in the second half, for a total of 20 shots, 9 of which were on goal, while the Blue Jays managed only 4 shots throughout the entire game. Wisconsin-Whitewater's defense remained solid, with their goalkeeper making four saves to secure the clean sheet.
With this victory, Wisconsin-Whitewater improves their season record to 4-3-1, while Westminster remains winless at 0-6-0. The Blue Jays will look for their first win of the season in their next game, Sunday September 22nd against Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin at 11:00AM.
