Fulton, Mo 3/28/2024- The Westminster College baseball team hosted the Principia College Panthers in a midweek SLIAC doubleheader. The Blue Jays would hit three home runs on the day leading to the sweep of the Panthers, winning 13-9 in game one and 19-9 in game two. Principia falls to 6-11 on the season and 0-4 in the SLIAC. Westminster moves to 9-14 overall and 2-2 in the SLIAC.

The Panthers would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead plating 3 runs in the top of the first. Principia would score 2 more in the top of the second to lead 5-2.

The Blue Jays would respond with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st and then had a big 7 run inning in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 9-5 lead. Westminster would bat around in the inning that saw 5 hits and 7 runs.

Aden Pecka hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 4th inning to put the Jays on top 11-5.

The Panthers would make it interesting in the top of the 9th, scoring 4 runs to make it 13-9. Dawson Schuemann came in to start the inning and would settle in after the runs scored. He would strike out a batter for the second out of the inning and then got a fly ball to end the game and secure the 13-9 win for the Blue Jays.

Kaleb Hinkle-Pruett picked up his 1st win of the season after throwing 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits. He would strike out 8 batters.

Principia would once again get off to a hot start, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Blue Jays scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st, then strung together 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd and 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

Matt Lukins hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 8th to make it 18-9. The Blue Jays would score one more run to end the game 19-9 in the 8th.

Ben Kennebeck got the start on the mound. He went 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 10 hits on his way to his 1st win of the season.
The Blue Jays will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky for a doubleheader against Spalding University on Saturday, March 30th. The 1st pitch of game 1 is set for 11:00 am CST.
