Blue Jays Secure Two Wins in Saturday Doubleheader

10/13/24 Fulton, MO - The Westminster volleyball team picked up two key victories on Saturday, defeating Lyon College and Eureka College in a pair of hard-fought matches. The Blue Jays showed determination in both contests, improving their overall record to 12-13 and 8-1 in SLIAC play.  

In the first match of the day, Westminster ended with a 3-1 win over Lyon College, taking the match with set scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, and 25-20. Meghan Nolte had an outstanding performance, leading the Blue Jays with 17 kills on a .696 hitting percentage, while also adding two service aces and seven digs. Westminster's offense was well-distributed, as Kylie Hasselbacher contributed 9 kills and 4 blocks, while Madisyn Ellis chipped in with 7 kills. Setter Emma Behrmann played a pivotal role in the team's success, dishing out 21 assists and adding a kill. On defense, libero Haylie Schnake anchored the back row with 12 digs, and the Blue Jays recorded a total of nine blocks to stop Lyon's attack.  

In their second match of the day, Westminster took on Eureka College and secured another 3-1 victory with set scores of 26-24, 25-11, 22-25, and 25-22. Once again, Nolte led the way with 19 kills and a .472 hitting percentage, along with three service aces to power the Blue Jays past the Red Devils. Hasselbacher continued her strong day with 14 kills, while Ellis added 7 kills and 4 service aces. Defensively, Schnake was dominant with 23 digs, and Liv Hart orchestrated the offense with 24 assists, adding five kills on a .714 hitting percentage. Westminster's net presence also made a difference, as the team recorded multiple blocks and forced Eureka into difficult attacking situations. 

With the two wins, Westminster continues its strong play in conference action and looks ahead to building on this momentum in their upcoming matches. The Blue Jays will return home, seeking another win against Stephens this upcoming Wednesday.
