Long Ball Carries Blue Jays To Game 3 Win Over Eureka

Eureka, IL 4/30/2023- The Westminster College baseball team was back in action on Sunday looking to rebound in game three of the series against Eureka College after losing both games of the doubleheader on Saturday. The Blue Jays left little doubt scoring every inning other than the sixth, they would hit a total of six home runs on the way to a 28-4 victory over the Red Devils. With the win, Westminster is back in the win column and improve to 20-17 overall on the season and move back to .500 in the SLIAC at 9-9. Eureka falls to 11-23 on the year and 9-12 in the conference.

Freshman pitcher Derek Archer (St. Charles, Mo / Francis Howell North) had another standout performance, going five innings and striking out nine batters. He picked up his fourth win of the season, improving his record to 4-3.

The Blue Jays' offense exploded, scoring 28 runs total in the game. They would have 30 hits as a team, six home runs, a triple, and three doubles.

Quin Adelson (Louisville, KY / North Oldham) had two home runs and six RBIs in the game. Skyler Bushey (Saint Albans, Vt / Bellows Free Academy), Troy Romero (Trophy Club, TX / Byron Nelson), Spencer Keiser (Old Monroe, Mo / Winfield) and Matt Lukins (Clark, Mo / Rock Bridge) all hit home runs.

Bushey leads the team with 14 on the year and continues to set the Westminster College record for most home runs in the season. Adelson hit his 9th and 10th home run in the game. Bushey and Adelson not only lead the Blue Jays in home runs but are also number 1 and number 2 in the conference in total home runs hit. Steven Diaz (Highland, Il. / Highland) is fifth in the conference with eight home runs.

Jackson Kespohl (Columbia, Mo / Hickman) and Sam Owen (Katy, Tx. / Cinco Ranch) would come in to finish the game. They would pitch an inning and two-thirds. Giving up two runs on five hits, they would have a strikeout each.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Friday, April 5th to start the final series of the season against Principia College. The first pitch from Elsah, IL is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
