Eureka, IL 9/16/2022- The Westminster women's soccer team traveled to Eureka, Illinois to take on the Eureka College Red Devils in the second SLIAC game of the season. Both teams came into the game 1-0 in the conference.
The game was close early on with the Blue Jays applying a lot of pressure but was unable to find the net through the first forty-three minutes of play. That would change when Hannah Shylanski (O'Fallon, MO / Fort Zumwalt North) scored her third goal of the season to give the Jays a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Westminster would score again a minute into the second half with a goal off the foot of Payton Montana (Barnhart, MO / Seckman) to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Blue Jay defense would hold the Red Devils to just one shot on goal and it was handled by goalie Megan Davidson (St. Louis, MO / Affton High School)
The Blue Jay offense would take a staggering forty shots with seventeen of them being on goal. Westminster improves to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in the SLIAC. They will be back in action on Wednesday, September 21st when they take on Fontbonne University. That game will kick off at 5:00 PM from Blue Jay Field.
