Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Westminster Women's Basketball Falls to Miners

ROLLA, Mo. - Westminster women's basketball fell to NCAA Division II opponent Missouri S&T 80-54 with the first game after Christmas break.

The Blue Jays fall to 5-5 with the loss.

"The first game back from a long layoff can always be challenging," said Westminster Head Coach James Arnold. "Everyone that came in and played did some good things and it was just one more day where we got a chance to learn and grow."

The Blue Jays held the lead for most of the first quarter thanks to points from four different Westminster players, eventually ending the first 10 minutes down 15-14.

A layup from Mikalyn Callahan in the second quarter gave the Blue Jays the lead back at the 5:56 mark, but quickly gave it back up.

The two squads traded scores for the remainder of the half, with Westminster finding themselves down just 31-25 at the half.

The Blue Jays struggled to score in the second half, allowing the Miners to score 49 total points while adding just 29 of their own.

Despite the second half offensive struggles, three Westminster players ended the game in double digits, including a game-high 17 points from Kendahl Adams. Grace Archambault added 11 while Payton Beeler added 10.

Westminster concludes 2017 and will continue conference play Wednesday against Fontbonne at home for the first time since November 29.

"This group is ready for league play and ready to play at home," said Arnold. "I can't imagine a team that has played a tougher schedule up until this point and has been on the road as much. I am confident it will pay dividends for us over the enxt two months."
