Westminster Volleyball Remains Undefeated in SLIAC

ELSAH, Ill. - Westminster volleyball defeated Principia and Spalding to remain undefeated in conference play while Hannah Marshall set a new school record.

The Blue Jays improved to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the SLIAC. 

"Today was another step in our team's maturation," said Westminster Head Coach Curtis Madson. "We showed our poise and intensity in the second match against Spalding. We keep finding ways to get the job done."

Westminster started out the day with a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers of Principia. Marshall led the team in kills with 13 while Kayla Reeg recorded 29 assists. Reeg also led the team in digs with 21. 

In the second match of the day against Spalding, Marshall led the team with 27 killls which set a new record in kills for a match in rally scoring at Westminster. 

The Blue Jays earned a tight 3-2 win against Spalding. After losing the first set 25-19, Westminster responded in the second set with a 25-21 victory.

Tied at one set apiece, Spalding came back to win the third set in demanding fasion, 25-15. The Blue Jays fought back in the fourth set, recording 18 kills and winning 30-28. 

To finish out the match, Westminster won the fifth set 15-11 to preserve their undefeated slate in conference play. 

Along with Marshall's 27 kills, Reeg tallied 59 assists while Bridget Ringwald added 28 digs. 

"Offensively, we are really clicking," said Madson. "It seems to be a different person every night. Players are stepping up in big moments and getting the job done."

Westminster returns home for a nonconference matchup against Hannibal-La Grange Tuesday at 7 p.m.
