The Westminster women's tennis team opened up conference play with a 6-3 win over Greenville College. The win brings the Westminster Blue Jays to 2-4 overall and starts them off with a 1-0 record in conference play.
The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead after doubles as Westminster took wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The freshman Sydney Attebery and senior Jessica Klutts duo won their doubles competition in the one spot, 8-6. Sophomore Payton Beeler and junior Ellen Woolsey defeated their oppenents in the two spot with a 8-4 decision.
In singles play, Klutts swept her opponent in the two spot by letting her opponent have just one point. The final scores were 6-0 and 6-1. In the no. three spot, Beeler won 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Laural Royer won her first set, 7-6, but dropped the second, 2-6. In the tiebreaker round, he won 10-5. Freshman Kelsey Gerlach won the final point for the Blue Jays in the six spot with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
The Blue Jays continue their conference schedule with an away match versus Blackburn College on Saturday, April 9.
