Blue Jays Suffer Loss to Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS - Westminster women's soccer led the entire match until the 75th minute, when Fontbonne scored two goals to seal their victory. 

The Blue Jays fall to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the SLIAC. Fontbonne improves to 7-1 in conference play. 

"I'm proud of the effort and discipline of the team tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Jen Dyson. "We learned some challenging lessons tonight. I look forward to competing with them again Saturday."

Westminster got on the board first with a good penalty kick from Morgan Henry after a card in the box in the 15th minute.

The Griffins came right back with a goal of their own just minutes later to keep the score tied at 1-1. 

In the 25th minute, Gracie Koonce followed in a rebound to put Westminster up 2-1 going into the half. 

Five minutes into the second half, Fontbonne again evened out the score at 2-2, but Westminster again followed with a goal to put themselves back on top. The final Bule Jay goal was scored by Hannah Wisnewski on a ball from Koonce. 

Fontbonne tied the score on a penalty kick after a foul in the box, and sealed their victory with a goal in the 78th minute that would be the last goal of the game to give the Griffins a 4-3 edge. 

Fontbonne outshot the Blue Jays 22-10. Sarah Craddick made five saves in goal. 

Westminster continues SLIAC play with the last match of the regular season at MacMurray Saturday at 1 p.m.The Blue Jays are currently tied for fourth place in the conference.
