Dr. Matthew Irvin brings a championship-caliber pedigree and over three decades of football coaching and leadership experience to the Westminster College staff. Serving as the Blue Jays' Offensive Line Coach, Coach Irvin has a proven track record of developing dominant front lines, mentoring student athletes at both the collegiate and scholastic levels.
Before arriving in Fulton, Coach Irvin built an illustrious coaching career across Missouri and Illinois. Most recently, he served as the head coach at MICDS in St. Louis after serving as the Tight Ends Coach at Washington University in St. Louis.
As a high school head coach, Coach Irvin amassed an incredible overall record of 103-27 across his tenures. At Kirkwood High School, he engineered a powerhouse program that went 54-9, leading the team to four Final Four appearances in five years and securing the first-ever Missouri State Championship in program history. A decorated former student-athlete himself, Coach Irvin was a four-year letterman and captain of the football team at Missouri State University. Playing on the offensive line, he earned Associated Press and Sport Network Division I-AA All-American honors, was a three-time All-Gateway Conference selection, and was ultimately named to the All-Gateway Conference All-Decade Team. Off the field, he was recognized on the Dean’s List and received the Arthur W. Briggs Award for Academics, Leadership, and Character.
In addition to his coaching prowess, Dr. Irvin is a highly accomplished career educator and administrator, currently serving as the Principal at Webster Groves High School in St. Louis.
