Blue Jays Battle Hard but Fall Short Against Webster

01/04/2025 Fulton, MO- The Westminster Blue Jays fought hard in a close matchup against Webster University on January 4th, but ultimately fell short, 74-70, at Historic Gym. Despite a strong second-half performance that saw the Blue Jays outscore the Gorloks 35-31, an eight-point halftime deficit proved too much to overcome.

The offensive charge was led by standout guard Kolton Garner, who delivered a stellar 30-point performance. Garner was efficient from beyond the arc, knocking down six three-pointers on 14 attempts, and was perfect from the free-throw line.

Walker Gohring delivered a balanced effort, contributing 11 points and six rebounds, while forward Luke Abeln added 12 points, including three three-pointers. The Blue Jays also received a solid defensive and rebounding effort from Jamile Johnson and Gavin Hendrix, who combined for 14 rebounds, helping Westminster stay competitive on the boards. The Blue Jays displayed efficient ball movement, recording 16 assists as a team, with key distribution from players like Abeln, Gohring, and Brysan Jeffries.

The Blue Jays shot 40% from the field and 70.6% from the free-throw line, showing efficiency in key moments. However, Webster's dominance on the glass, with 46 rebounds compared to Westminster's 37, proved to be a critical factor in the game's outcome.

Westminster's second-half effort highlighted their potential, as they kept pace with a strong Webster lineup. The Blue Jays will look to build on this performance as they continue their season, aiming to improve their consistency on both ends of the court.

The Blue Jays return to action next week, on Wednesday, January 8th, against Greenville University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM at Historic Gym in Fulton, Missouri.
